A clear focus on client needs
Charities dominate the not-for-profit sector in the Isle of Man. Operating in the not for profit sector has never been more challenging with unprecedented economic, social and environmental conditions creating escalating needs. Charities need innovation and creativity to develop and implement real solutions to achieve their vision. Our team has experience of working across not just the third sector but also the commercial and public sectors giving them a fresh perspective from which to design new approaches to client service delivery.
Charity law in the Isle of Man is the jewel in the crown. Its deliberate absence of the over-defined, silo mentality found in other jurisdictions coupled with a rigorous but straightforward registration process means that a charity under Isle of Man law can be placed at the centre of worldwide philanthropic projects.
The Isle of Man position on charities contrasts very starkly with the UK solution contained in the Charities Act 2011 (of Parliament), which creates systematic, “silo definitions” which are (in comparison with Isle of Man law) hugely too specific and open to disputed interpretations.
Our “full service” approach to advising charities and a broad range of other organisations means that we also work closely with our real estate, commercial, funds, financial services, insolvency and corporate colleagues from across the firm.
A comprehensive and practical service
