Approval and Licensing Process

We work closely with you from intial beginnings to company formation and establishment, relocation and evolution, continuing our relationship throughout the growth of your company to ensure you remain effective and professional.

Once you have formulated your business plan and are ready to apply for licensing, we will work closely with you in completing the application pack to ensure it is ready for submission to the Regulator – the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission.

Your application form will be represented by an inspector, who typically only recommend an application for hearing by the Commission when it believes the application will gain approval. However, an applicant has the right to insist that an application be heard.

Following their review, the Commission may offer an approval which could contain conditions that need to be fulfilled before the licence can be granted. If, however, the approval has been given, then there are no conditions to fulfil, and you are able to purchase the licence and commence business immediately.

If you are not in a position to begin operations straightaway, then a letter of approval is issued, and the Commission will agree an approval period during which the venture can move forward. The Commission will issue an invoice for the licence once that approval period lapses.

If after this approval period the business is still not ready to begin operations, the Commission will determine if there needs to be an extension or if an invoice for the licence should be issued. If an invoice is issued, you will have the status of ‘paid, not live’ until you begin operations.

Before the licence is granted, the Commission will check that the facilities and arrangements that have been put in place match those within the application. If at any time after the licence has been granted you wish to make changes to your original application, then we will need to discuss these matters with the Commission so that any further grounds for approval can be highlighted and granted in accordance with the legislation.

As part of the approval, you will be party to any interim checks the Commission wishes to carry out, at any time they see fit. The Commission may request information and updates from you, inspect your premises and works in progress and so forth to ensure that you are progressing as agreed in the active approval letter.
