Hendo’s Hill Climb Comeback

Meet Ryan Henderson, more commonly known as Hendo. On most weekends you can find Hendo working the decks at 1886 Bar and Grill. However, from the 25th to the 27th of April, Hendo will be making his racing return to the Manx Classic Hill Climb Sprint with MannBenham Advocates as his proud sponsor. We are thrilled to be fuelling his comeback journey every step of the way.

Hendo has a long history of professional racing spanning, back to 2008 when he began as a stockcar racer, winning championships at just 16 before expanding on to full-contact banger racing and winning another two championships. Hendo has consistently showcased skill, determination, and a relentless hunger for victory. Now, after 7-years away from the racing scene, Hendo is gearing up for a triumphant return after receiving a generous car donation from his close friend Alex. With a shared passion for the sport, Alex is equally excited about Hendo’s highly anticipated return and eager to see his car being used for the sprints. Together, with another trusted friend, Reegan, the trio dedicated eight intensive weeks to refurbishing the car in a challenging workshop environment, overcoming numerous obstacles along the way.

The journey to restore the car was not without its challenges, including setbacks such as exploding engine paint and, the need to redo the entire paint job due to unforeseen reactions. However, through perseverance and sheer determination, the team transformed the vehicle from a basic shell into a race-ready machine in a remarkably short span of eight weeks.

For the upcoming hill climb, Hendo will be behind the wheel of a 1998 Integra Type R, originally boasting 187bhp straight off the production line, packed into a sleek 1100kg frame. While some may underestimate the capability of this classic machine, Hendo and his team believe its refined handling and timeless design will be a key advantage in navigating the twists and turns of the Manx roads. The Manx Classic Hill Climb Sprint promises three days of heart-pounding action on three different closed public roads. With up to 80 cars and drivers competing for glory, it’s set to be a spectacle unlike any other. With an open pit format, spectators have the unique opportunity to witness the excitement up close, feeling the deep roar of engines and the rush of adrenaline.

As for predictions, we’re confident that Hendo and the Integra Type R will be a force to be reckoned with. While other cars in his class may boast greater speed such as the Fiesta ST 150 or the Lotus Elise, none can match the agility and precision of this timeless classic Integra. With careful preparation, relentless determination, and a touch of magic, there’s no doubt in our minds that Hendo will position himself at the top of the leaderboard and reclaim his Manx records at the Sloc and Creg Willey.

As anticipation builds for the Manx Classic Hill Climb Sprint, enthusiasts are invited to rally behind Hendo as he embarks on this remarkable racing comeback, identifiable by car number 53.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the return of this racing icon. You will find Hendo at:

  • 25th April: The Sloc at 10:00 am
  • 26th April: Creg Willeys at 10:00 am
  • 27th April: Lhergy Frissell at 10:00 am

His unwavering dedication, resilience, and passion for the sport have inspired us all. MannBenham Advocates proudly stands by his side, cheering him on every step of the way.
