How to apply for an Isle of Man Online Gambling Licence

Types of Online Gambling Licences
available in the Isle of Man

Written by Frank Schuengel | Manavia Limited

The Isle of Man offers a tried and tested licensing framework for all types of operators and eGaming companies, from sportsbooks to casinos and software houses. The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC) oversees the regulation and licensing of online gambling activities on the island. Established in 1962, the GSC has a long history of ensuring fair play, player protection, and the integrity of the industry.

Full Licence
The Full Licence is the most comprehensive licence offered by the Isle of Man. It covers a wide range of gambling activities, including sports betting, casino games, poker, lottery, pools, and more. The GSC is also able to license activities that do not fall into existing category, such as brand-new products, thereby supporting innovation. Crypto currencies are also allowed.

Sub-Licence
An Isle of Man Sub-Licence enables an eGaming company to cooperate with an existing Full Licence holder by using their platform and services. It may present a cheaper and easier entry into the world of Isle of Man licences but does require an application to the GSC in almost the same way as the Full Licence. Full Licence holders can offer Sub Licences, B2B and White Labels under their own licence with no extra cost.

Network Services Licence
The Network Services Licence includes all aspects of a Full Licence but also allows the licence holder to cooperate with gambling companies licensed elsewhere by allowing players from those companies to play on its servers without need to re-register. Common use cases include Poker networks and networked jackpots.

Sub-Licence
The Sub-License is an option for operators who are already licensed in another jurisdiction and wish to extend their services to the Isle of Man. This allows them to operate under the umbrella of an existing Full Online Gambling Licence holder, streamlining the entry process.

Software Supplier (B2B) Licence
An optional licence aimed at games developers, platform providers and other software houses that wish to operate at the highest level. Holding a Software Supplier Licence entitles the licence holder to include their products in the Isle of Man’s Software Supplier Register, thereby enabling all other Isle of Man licensed companies to use the products freely and without need for additional test certificates. The Software Supplier Licence is also available as Token based version for crypto products.

White Labels
White Labels do not require a licence under Isle of Man regulations but can be offered under a Full Licence. In this case, the Full Licence holder registers the players and ensures regulatory compliance, while the White Label partner can offer the products and services of the Full Licence holder under their own brand.
